ViralVector Chrome Extension Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 14, 2026
Overview
ViralVector is a Chrome extension that helps users collect, organize, track, and export Instagram data that is available through their own signed-in browser session.
This policy explains what data the extension handles, why it is needed, where it is stored, and how users can remove it.
Data the extension handles
To provide its user-facing features, ViralVector may handle the following data from Instagram pages that the user can access:
- Instagram usernames, account identifiers, profile information, and profile URLs.
- Follower and following records.
- Posts, captions, comments, hashtags, engagement values, and related metadata.
- Photos, videos, media URLs, and other user-selected media resources.
- The current Instagram page URL and session status.
- Instagram session status and the availability of authentication information required to use the user's existing signed-in session.
ViralVector may locally and temporarily read authentication information already available in the user's browser when performing a user-requested operation. ViralVector does not ask users to provide their Instagram password and does not persist, export, log, or transmit Instagram cookie values or authentication tokens to ViralVector servers.
How the data is used
The extension uses this data only to provide its disclosed single purpose: creating a local Instagram data workspace for collection, organization, historical comparison, export, media download, and optional user-directed AI workflows.
The data is used to:
- Display accounts, hashtags, posts, and saved data in the extension dashboard.
- Collect user-requested followers, following, media, comments, and hashtag results.
- Save account snapshots and calculate changes between snapshots.
- Create CSV exports and download user-selected media files.
- Fulfill requests from an optional AI client connected through the local ViralVector bridge.
Storage and transmission
Instagram content collected by the extension is stored locally in Chrome extension storage and IndexedDB on the user's device.
When a user requests fresh Instagram data, the extension communicates directly with Instagram using the user's current browser session. When a user downloads media, the extension may retrieve that media directly from Instagram or Meta content-delivery domains.
The optional AI integration communicates with a compatible client through a WebSocket connection on the user's own computer. The local bridge is disabled by default and requires a user-configured pairing token.
The Chrome Web Store release build does not transmit product analytics to ViralVector or Google Analytics. It does not send Instagram content, account identifiers, prompts, exports, cookies, or authentication tokens to ViralVector servers.
Data sharing
ViralVector does not sell user data.
ViralVector does not transfer user data for advertising, credit assessment, data brokerage, or purposes unrelated to the extension's single purpose.
ViralVector does not permit employees or other humans to read locally stored Instagram data. Data may leave the device only when the user explicitly exports a file, downloads media, or enables and uses a compatible local AI client.
Data retention and deletion
Collected data remains in the extension's local storage until the user deletes individual records, clears the workspace, clears Chrome extension data, or uninstalls the extension.
Exported CSV files and downloaded media are controlled by the user through the browser and operating system and must be deleted separately.
Security
ViralVector limits access to the Instagram and Meta domains required for its features. Download permissions are requested only when the user initiates a media download.
The optional local AI bridge binds to the user's computer and requires a matching pairing token. Users should keep pairing tokens private and enable the bridge only when it is needed.
No method of local storage, browser processing, or electronic transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Users should keep Chrome, the extension, and their operating system updated.
Limited Use
ViralVector's use and transfer of information received from Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Instagram and third-party services
ViralVector is an independent browser extension and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instagram or Meta Platforms, Inc.
Instagram may change its website, technical systems, access limits, or enforcement practices at any time. These changes may interrupt extension features or cause Instagram to display rate limits, verification requests, security challenges, or account restrictions.
ViralVector cannot control Instagram's services or guarantee uninterrupted access, data availability, or the status of any Instagram account.
User responsibilities
Users are responsible for ensuring that their collection, export, analysis, and use of Instagram data complies with applicable laws, third-party rights, and Instagram's terms.
Changes to this policy
ViralVector may update this policy when the extension's functionality or legal requirements change. The updated policy will be published at the same URL with a revised "Last updated" date. Material changes may also be communicated through the Chrome Web Store listing or the extension interface.
